I got this unit for my basement approx 14 x 30'. It does keep the basement a nice temperature - set the thermostat - nice! BUT the fan became quite loud. Not bad with the TV on, but is somewaht distracting when it is quiet. Good for the price, however could be designed to operate more quietly.

I purchased this heater in hopes of heating a 20 x 10 area in my basement that was just refinished. It does a poor job concentrating the heat only in an area of about 5 X 10 feet in front of the heater. The temperature then drops off sharply. I would not recommend this heater for a large area or an area that is not well insulated.

I purchased 4 different brands/models of heaters for our 2009/2010 winter here in S Fl because my house does not have a heating system... Hello!!! this is S Fl LOL. By far this is my favorite. I've to turn it off in the middle of the night because my bedroom gets really warm. It is not enough for my living room/dinning room but it does well for my bedroom. FYI.- Our cold fronts here get on the 50's to 40 degrees.

We've shopped and shopped and bought several types of electric room heaters (panel heaters, oil filled baseboard and radiator styles, etc.), and we haven't been happy with any of them. This Lasko heater has ended our search! It pumps out lots of heat and the louvered adjuster lets you direct the heat straight into the room, straight up, or anywhere in between. The fan is not silent, but it also isn't obnoxious! We have it in our bedroom and we sleep fine with it running. Probably the best feature is the very accurate thermostat control that lets you set a digital temperature. It brings the room up to that temperature and shuts down when not needed. That saves energy. The remote control is a really convenient addition. The one possible down side is its size. The heater is large, but it is designed so that you can put it right up against a wall with no concern for safety. So you should be able to find a convenient location in any room. Like all space heaters, it works best in a closed room, but we've used it in our large open family room, kitchen, dining room with good results compared to other room heaters. We like it so much we are ordering another!

The shipping box for the heater was in poor condition when I received it. Some hardware was missing as a result. The heater was not damaged and works fine so far. It heats my 16x24 woodworking shop very well.

The product quality was good, but it does not heat up garage/workshop area very well. In order to feel heat you must be within 3 feet of heater. I wanted to use to warm up workshop area prior to actually working in area and it just did not due the job. The heater is good if you are right next to it, but don't count on it to heat up work area...especially if you live in a state like Wisconsin.

This is a decent heater for the money. I have a 75K BTU Hot Dawg that I was too late (read: too lazy, waited until there was snow on the roof so I could not vent) in installing this winter. I purchased this because it only needed 12 gauge wire (20A) 220V power and it was easy to update the 110V outlet and breaker from 110V to 20A 220V, to accommodate it. It doesn't really heat up my garage like the Hot Dawg, but it certainly takes the chill out of the air and makes it more comfortable to work in there. I just turn it on a few hours before I head out there. I like it! Not sure on the cost increase on my electric bill, but it is probably minimal since I only used it maybe 20 hours total last month. Even with this heaterit has been a cold December January in Chicagoland!

Northern Tool was excellent about replacing the first heater that was sent to us... the fan wouldn't work because it was damaged and hitting the motor. They shipped out a new one and picked up the old one asap. It is a little loud, but it's for a garage, so that is to be expected. Other than that, it has been keeping our 600-square foot home toasty warm, even at 5 below zero.

Pleasantly surprised by this heater. I was in the midst of finishing my detached oversize two car garage and the heater choice was on my to-do list. I was going to require about 16000 BTU with standard insulation in my climate (Syracuse NY), which would equate to about 4800-5000W electric heater. Since I was over insulating the garage walls (R17 walls, R40 ceiling), I was confident I could get away with a slightly smaller unit - the 4000W Dimplex. If needed I can supplement in a local area of the garage with a small 1500W space heater that I already had. Installation was straight forward, since I was putting in all new electrical circuits in the garage anyway, it was easy enough to add the dedicated 240V circuit for this Dimplex unit. My unit required a NEMA 6-20 recepticle. I started using the Dimplex unit with only some of the walls insulated, and was pleased that I could get a 10degF increase in room temperature in about 60-70 minutes even with the outside temp being 22-25 (starting temp in unfinished garage around 32degF). I do not anticipate a large impact on my electric bill. I pay $0.05 (5 cents) for 1 kWhour. This ia 4kW heater, so for one hour of run time I pay $0.20 (20 cents). The heater will likely get used for about two hours a day ($0.40), for a total of about $12 a month. Why only four stars? Well my only complaint about the heater is that it doesn't have a built in fan delay. When the unit kicks on, it powers the heating element and fan right away. So the fan is blowing cold air over a heating element that isn't up to temperature yet. This is a very small annoyance and a small inefficiency of the heater. The heater does have a shut down delay on the fan, it will keep the fan blowing over the hot element when the thermostat kicks the element off. This extracts and distributes the remaining residual heat from the element. Still the start up fan delay would have been nice.

"Good product when it works" 2010-04-01

We received the product in a timly fashon even earlier than originaly stated. We enjoyed the product except for the sound effect which we turned off and the annoying red light in the center which we covered with duct tape. We used it on its floor stand in our bedroom for a few days and then hung it on its wall hooks in our RV for a few days. And then the fan stopped and the coils overheated and smoked and we turned it off and unplugged it. We reported this malfunction to the Bionaire people, they took down the serial number and promised to send us another one. As stated above we enjoyed the fireplace and it fit perfectly, as measured, in our 30' RV. We wished the product had worked and are a tad nervous about plugging in its replacement. The fan was always a tad noisey so perhaps the replacement will be quieter.

This heater is truly amazing. The fire looks beautiful and you can dim it so it's not too bright. It warms up my large bedroom in 15 minutes flat and will get burning hot after an hour. The crackling noise is kind of annoying but you can set it to mute. The only downfalls are that you can't set the timer for 3 hours--I wanted the have the heater warming for 1 hour before I goto bed and 2 hours into sleep (3 hours total) but this isn't possible--You can only set it for 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 hours... and the LCD screen is bright blue while everything else is dim red. That caveats are small and I still love this heater!

I bought 2 of these around christmas time. One for me and one for a gift. The shipping was free and came in a timely manner. when I recieved them they both had specks inside the glass. I assume it was fragments from the fake log. That rattled loose during shipping. Never the less you can't get them out. Now there is slight discoloration under the glass on the red back ground. Also make sure you use the short screws to attach the base. The directions make it look like you use the long ones. If you hang it on the wall. It's a pain to take it down, and then attach it to the base. So i'ts really one or the other. As far as being a good heater it is. When i'ts in the teens it helps the furnace from coming on every 10 minutes! I've used it every day for a month now and my electric bill has went up 50.00. So if I would have turned up my furnace to stay that warm. My gas bill would have been alot more than that! So for sure buy one! They give off good heat, and the ambiance is cool too! Also turn off the fake log crackle.It annoys everyone.You will enjoy the ambiance alot more!

The fireplace works fine in it's most important aspect: generating heat. It has a stylish, very contemporary design. The glass front is thick and smooth and you don't need to worry about cracking it. The blue backlit display turns off after a few seconds which is nice. Great remote that supports all functions. There are a few annoyances that were weighing too heavily for us and made me return it, though: First, since the unit is only a few inches deep and it is either wall-mounted or on the stand there is no easy way to hide the cord, which really spoils the appearance. The fan is a little noisy and keeps on running even when the heat is turned off, probably to cool the two lamps and to generate the light effect. The "crackling wood" sound effect sounds hollow and thin but can thankfully be turned off. Finally, the light effect is not realistic at all, just a waving background. If you don't mind these annoyances, it is a good product.

It's a nice heater, warms the room just fine but not very realistic looking it would be great if you could recess it in the wall then it would look more realistic. I leave the sound effects off as others have said it just sounds like weird crackling it's better silent. Visitors have made positive comments.

I bought this for my work because it is so cold in office. I would NOT recommend this to anyone. It blows cool/ warm air. No matter how much I turn the knobs to warm, the temp does not change. I think it makes me colder, actually. No HEAT from this "Heater". Again, I would NOT recommend.

For the size and price this is a great little heater. I am a Licensed Esthetician and I purchased it to heat a bathroom for clients when they have a tub soak after a body polish. It is just perfect for what I need. The only drawback is if you need to heat a bigger space--it isn't that powerful--but I think it even said that in the description. I have used these small heaters in my bathroom for years...Ive tried Pelonis, Holmes and Honeywell...My favorite is Pelonis unfortunately I cannot find them anymore..The Pelonis heater has worked for years but only because I've taken better care of it than I did the Holmes heater.. TIP ***Use your blow dryer to blow out lint often and a very long soft brush to keep vents clear of lint.....This will help heater to have a much longer life ...I found that on all of the above brand heaters, they will shut off when using HI HEAT setting but on medium setting they will run for hours and heat will flow into the next room...In the winter mine will remain on for hours providing inexpensive warmth*****Make sure lint does not build up and they are well ventillated****

"ONLY HEATS OBJECTS IT"S POINTED AT!" 2010-08-29

In some 5 star reviews, they mention how well it works if you stay in one spot. For me that is a disadvantage because I move around with a room alot. This heater will only heat objects which will then eventually heat the air around the object. That seems to me a inefficiant way of heating a room. If you sit right in front of the heater within a distance of maybe 6-8 feet, nothing works better. But if you move out of that spot, it's cold. However, keeping in mind that it heats objects, I attempted to heat an 8'x8' shed to 80%-85% because I was raising crickets, while the night time temperatures were getting down to 60%. I put the heater in the middle of the shed and pointed it to a flat piece of steel about 1'-2' away. I turned it on low and was able to heat the shed up to a max 80%. The piece of steel got so hot that you couldn't touch it, but it heated the air which is what I needed, but there is another disadvantage. There is no thermostat, so the heater was on continuously and there was no way to fine tune the amount of heating meaning it can very easily overheat as well as underheat, plus, if there is a power outage even for a second, the heater goes off and stays off, and that was a big concern for me. I eventually settled on a "base board heater" which is very efficient and accurate.

This was a good heater while it lasted. I used it at my computer desk at home to supplement the furnace; often I just relied on this heater alone. I live in an old house with little to no insulation, so warming surfaces (including me) vs trying to warm the air seemed like the way to go. The brightness does take some getting used to, I placed mine on the floor off to the side. This heater uses a halogen heating element shining back towards the aluminum reflective dish, so as bright as it is, you are not looking directly at the halogen bulb unless you make a concerted effort at a strange angle. I used both the high and low settings as needed. If you have exposed skin within two or three feet of the heater (in direct line with the heat), the high setting will start to turn your skin red. I never had a problem while wearing long pants and long-sleeve shirts though. I did not use the oscillation feature as I was sitting in one place and always wanted the heat on me. If I got warm enough that it felt uncomfortable, I turned the heater off for a while. As my review title says, everything was great for about five months. Then I went to turn it on and saw a poof of light, then nothing; just like what usually happens when a light bulb burns out. I took the wire screen off so I could get a better look at the heating element, which sits behind a small aluminum disc. It is more robust than a typical halogen bulb, and appears to be hardwired. Clearly the manufacturer did not intend for consumers to replace the heating element. I checked their website and could not find replacement parts. One reviewer claimed the halogen element should last 3-5 years if you don't shake or move the heater around. Obviously this was not my experience. Pretty expensive for five months of use. There is a one-year warranty, but it does not include "5) Freight and Insurance cost for the warranty service." Right. By the time I paid to ship the thing to them... and presumably also paid for shipping the replacement back to me? ... might as well buy another one. Typical throw-away-society example. Disappointing, but not too surprising.
